Expert Care for Common Prostate Problems
At The Doctors Practice, we provide comprehensive assessment and management for a wide range of prostate conditions, not just prostate cancer screening.
Many men experience prostate symptoms as they get older, but these problems are often treatable and manageable with the right medical support. Our experienced doctors offer confidential, evidence-based care tailored to your individual symptoms and concerns.
Conditions We Help Manage
We assess and support patients with:
- Enlarged prostate (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia – BPH)
- Prostatitis (inflammation or infection of the prostate)
- Urinary symptoms related to prostate enlargement
- Frequent urination, especially at night
- Difficulty starting or maintaining urine flow
- Urgency or incomplete bladder emptying
- Pelvic discomfort or prostate pain
- Ongoing prostate health monitoring
Step 1: Initial Consultation and Risk Factors Assessment
Dr Bik reviews your medical history, family history, age, ethnicity, medication, and risk factors. This is also the time to discuss symptoms such as difficulty urinating, blood in urine, pelvic pain, bladder changes, or concerns about prostate cancer.
Step 2: Screening Tests
A PSA blood test is performed by our qualified clinical team. PSA testing is recommended for all men over the age of 50, especially those at increased risk of prostate cancer due to family history or other factors.
A clinical examination may be conducted when appropriate. Depending on your symptoms and findings, your doctor may also advise urine testing, repeat PSA testing, MRI, or referral for further tests.
Step 3: Results Review
You receive a comprehensive discussion of your results with your doctor. The PSA level is reviewed alongside age, prostate size, symptoms, infection risk, previous PSA trend, and whether benign prostatic hyperplasia could explain the result.
Elevated PSA levels do not confirm cancer. A raised result can lead to further tests such as MRI or biopsy, while a normal PSA does not remove all risk. This is why your results must be interpreted by a doctor who can guide you safely.
Step 4: Follow-up Plan
Your follow-up plan may include repeat blood tests, monitoring over time, MRI, urology referral, or urgent assessment if the findings suggest a higher risk of aggressive prostate cancer, and early review of abnormal findings can support timely access to effective treatment when needed.
Prostate cancer treatment options include active surveillance, surgery, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, and chemotherapy, depending on the stage and aggressiveness of the cancer. Active surveillance is often recommended for men with low-risk prostate cancer, allowing men to avoid or delay treatment while monitoring the cancer’s progression. Radiation therapy can be delivered externally or internally, and is commonly used to treat localized prostate cancer or to relieve symptoms in advanced cases.
